If you have ever visited the Cabrera Farms booth at the University District Farmers Market, you have likely been helped by warmhearted Miguel, Farmer Francisco Cabrera’s nephew. We had the pleasure of visiting Francisco’s farm, where we snapped the above photo.

Residents of Washington State for more than a decade, The Cabreras are a beautiful family of four who preside over ten acres of land at Viva Farms, a Farm Business Incubator and Training Program established in 2009. A desire for increased production, efficiency, and business prompted a move from Skagit Flats to Viva Farms in 2015. Their operation produces a variety of gorgeous organic fruits and vegetables including zucchini, winter & summer squash, cucumbers, green beans, cabbage, lettuce, and even strawberries!

From season to season Cabrera Farms’ acreage quadruples, and Farmer Francisco aspires to continue growing, particularly so he can grow more vegetables. A true family business, his wife Zochitl is delving into the marketing realm of their business with help from Farm Educator, Kate Smith. Their children, Belen, 12 and Aidet, 8, are the inspiration for their hard work, and they hope to one day pay both through college. When they are not on the farm, the Cabreras love to learn new things day-by-day, and spend quality time with family, like Miguel.

You can find Cabrera Farms produce at the University District Farmers Market, and on the University District Online Market via WhatsGood! It takes three minutes to create an account to easily shop your market favorites and pay in a single transaction.

Farming families like the Cabrera’s need your support to continue farming through the COVID-19 pandemic, and long after it’s over. Contribute what you can to the Good Farmer Fund today!
