Community Update 5/29/20

The closure of farmers markets in Seattle, limits on vendor participation, and limited use of public space is taking an irreversible toll on our region’s farmers, the local food supply chain, the farmers markets and shoppers we serve. The Neighborhood Farmers Markets is taking action to make sure the connection between local farms and consumers remains strong.

Welcome Back Flower Farmers!

April showers bring May flowers, though there have been fewer bouquets around than usual. One of the agricultural communities most impacted by losses due to COVID-19 is our state’s flower farmers. We are thrilled that flowers are now allowed to return to Seattle's farmers markets,and know that our flower farmers will need ample community support to get back on their feet.

Today Marks Five Weeks Without Our Farmers Markets

On Friday at 11:30am, we received a call from the Mayor’s Office saying they could not approve the re-opening of markets this weekend. That came after receiving direct and unilateral communication from Public Health, Office of Sustainability and Environment, and the Office of Economic Development that the markets would indeed be operating this weekend. We are disappointed, but we are moving forward with our mission to support Washington Farmers - Here's how you can help.
