Chefs this year are announced!  Matt Broussard of Palace Kitchen vs. Justin Casimiro Legaspi of Bateau will create amazing culinary artistry under fire - the countdown begins at 10 AM sharp!

Witness the creative mettle of local chefs under fire during the 19th annual “Ready, Set, Go…Cook!” competition - this popular annual event is not to be missed! 

The rules of the “Ready, Set, Go…Cook!” are simple, but challenging.  All ingredients must come from the farmers market for under $20, and there are three secret ingredients from the U-District Food Bank thrown in to challenge the chefs.  The two chefs have 15 minutes to shop the farm tables and 45 minutes to concoct a recipe on the spot, using the items purchased from farmers and from the Food Bank. 

Our esteemed judges the this year will be: Jackie Varriano from Zagat, Rob Johnson, District 4 City Councilmember, and Chris Petry, of Oh Yeah! Farms.  Judges will assess the chefs’ dishes based on creativity, eye appeal and taste.  Chefs are allowed two small secret weapons: they may bring in one secret spice or herb to enhance their dish, and they are allowed to see our “Ripe and Ready” weekly e-mail update listing the seasonal produce available at the market the week of the competition.
