Falling in Love at the Markets

Alex and Leah’s love affair with food began way before theirs did.

They were both called into the kitchen and the markets due to their dedication to high quality ingredients and obsession with flavor. Leah studied in Florence, Italy and was inspired by the food culture there that prioritizes community, quality and eating seasonally.

Alex was initiated into the culinary world by his childhood friend Max’s mom, Carol. Carol taught him not only how to cook nutritious meals, but how to make them delicious too. Her nurturing and fun loving spirit is imbued in all things at the Cafe. Carol’s nickname was Lolo.

Partnering with Local Farms

Cafe Lolo proudly partners with local farms to purchase their ingredients at the peak of the season to ensure optimal flavor as well as encouraging sustainable practices.

Knowing that their wheat and ingredients are Washington grown ensures a unique quality that tastes fresh and new while at the same time feels a lot like coming home. 

Meeting at the Markets           

Everyone around them could tell these two had a tangible chemistry. Leah was working at Tonnemaker Farms and selling produce at the markets and Alex was shopping for restaurant ingredients when their paths crossed. It took some encouragement from a co-worker for Alex to finally ask for Leah’s number. Leah was scheduled to leave to South America the very next day, but decided to stop and get drinks with Alex at Teddy’s. And so began a delicious partnership that has since blossomed into a loving relationship and business based on uncompromising values to nourish people and live in harmony with nature.

They will be wrapping up the Capitol Hill Tuesdays on September 24th 3-7pm.

And can also be found at Columbia City Wednesdays 3-7pm.

They are also a year round staple at our West Seattle Sunday Market so be sure to come warm your hands and hearts at their booth in the winter months when you need something to lift your spirits.
