NFM Job Openings

Market Staff - The Neighborhood Farmers Markets is hiring for Market Staff for the year-round University District Farmers Market. Market staff are responsible for maintaining and supporting the onsite, weekly operations. The position will entail approximately 8-10 hours per weekend with potential for additional hours by filling in at other markets. 

MAIN JOB DUTIES

  • Set up and tear down equipment, street closures, crowd and traffic management.
  • Work with Market Manager and other Market Staff to ensure that market operations run smoothly.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the NFM’s overarching mission and be able to effectively communicate this to the public and consistently represent it within the work environment.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to shoppers, vendors, and community partners.
  • Serve as an effective sales agent by selling merchandise, connecting shoppers and vendors, and administering Fresh Bucks, EBT, and Helping Harvest transactions.
  • Enforce market policies and check that vendors are complying with the laws and regulations of relevant agencies such as the WSDA, King County Health Department, and NFM policies.
  • Represent the NFM at the markets and in their surrounding communities.
  • Support end of day bookkeeping, vendor invoicing, and deposit reconciliation process.

  • Ability to count money and do basic math in a busy environment.
  • Respond to issues that arise creatively, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Detailed and adept at multi-tasking.
  • Spatial and logistics minded.
  • Team player who promotes teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Work long hours on your feet in all weather conditions.
  • Lift at least 50 pounds safely.
  • Current or able to obtain King County Health Department Food Handlers Permit

Vendor Job Openings

The following farmers and food vendors are currently looking for booth sales help at markets, or help on the farm. Please contact them directly for more information (find them online or at the markets). 

 -Booth Canyon Orchard is seeking Market staff for Sept 14-Dec 22, including Thanksgiving weekend (Saturdays: University District market 7:30-3, Sundays: Ballard market 7:30-4).   Market staff assist Booth Canyon Orchard farmers with sales at Seattle area farmers markets.  Booth Canyon Orchard is a small, diversified, apple and pear farm in Okanogan county.  We specialize in unusual varieties of apples and pears and focus on growing truly outstanding fruit, grown and picked to maximize flavor. We believe we are part of the forces of happiness in the universe sharing our amazing fruit with our customers of 20+ years. Seattle market staff will:  •Assist in loading and unloading the van.  •Help set up and break down at designated markets  •Engage with customers to explore the multitude of varieties of fruit each market day  •Weigh product, make change or charge cards, promote specials of the day  •Be able and willing to lift at least 20 lbs repeatedly  •Have a positive attitude in rain, wind, snow or otherwise nasty weather (good rain gear and boots helps with this)  •Be flexible with scheduling—farming is unpredictable!       Apply: Send resume and cover letter stating why you want to work with us directly to [email protected]  Then see us at the University District market Sept 7 to meet in person.  The job can be fast and intense and we all need to work well together.
